It was announced today in the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office has charged Lori Reineke with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, failure to exercise due care and engaging in actions which distract from the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
Ms. Reineke was driving on Sugarloaf Parkway at an intersection in Duluth allegedly with a green light when suddenly a pedestrian step into traffic shortly after eight in the evening.
This is the first case in Georgia where a driver is charged with vehicular homocide because she was allegedly texting.
If you read this article carefully you will pick up on the fact that there were many issues which could have contributed to the unfortunate death of James Eaton, such as the time of night, the weather and the lights. It is alleged that Mr. Eaton had a do not walk light while Ms. Reineke had a green light.
There appears to be more questions than answers at this point. This does not look like a clear case of texting while driving but Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office is moving forward with said charges.
Ms. Reineke is being represented by attorney Larry Delan.
