While on traveling on U.S. Highway 1, Pedro Juan Ocasio Alcazar of Jacksonville, Florida was apparently driving fast and attempting to pass Ms. Mitchell’s vehicle when in stead of passing he collided in to the rear of Ms. Mitchell’s vehicle forcing their vehicle into the concrete median according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

After hitting the concrete median a flatbed truck which was right behind the Mitchell vehicle could not stop and ran over their Nissan.  Five of the six died at the scene.  Miya was taken to a local hospital where she later died.
