According to reports the Newton County nine month girl who was attacked by two raccoons, was a result of her father feeding and attempting to make pets of the raccoons.
Michael Wayne Cannon of Newton county was allegedly brought the two raccoons in to his back yard a month prior to his baby girl was attacked on November 3rd.
Under Georgia law it is unlawful to maintain wildlife as pets. The reality is this was reckless behavior for a father to allow wildlife in his home. I am sure he never thought the raccoons would viciously attack his nine month old little girl. I know that if he thought that he would have never handled them.
The bigger issue is in knowing why we do not attempt domesticate or maintain wildlife. There is a reason they are called wildlife.
The nine month old is still recovering and we will not know the long term affects of this attack on this innocent little girl, but we can be sure that this will be something that she carries with her for years to come if not for life.
