If you have been injured as the result of a Georgia accident, sometimes you don’t know what to do next. While you’re healing, believe it or not, the insurance company is working on how to avoid paying you the money to which you are entitled. It’s unfortunate, but the insurance company is not your friend. There are things you can do, however, to protect yourself after you have been injured in a Savannah car wreck:
DO go get medical treatment as soon as possible.
The insurance company wants to pay as little as possible for your claim, and they are in the business of making money, not paying it out. Insurance adjusters are just looking for reasons to deny payment. Often, people who have been injured in car wrecks try to “tough it out” with their injuries and hope they will heal on their own. However, this is not the best course of action. If over a week has passed since the wreck, it is possible that you will have a difficult time trying to prove to the insurance company that you even sustained an injury. Their defense will be that you would have seen a doctor right away if you were hurt.
DO tell your doctor about ALL of your injuries.
When you do see a doctor, be sure to disclose all your injuries resulting from the crash – even if some are worse than others. If you neglect to report injuries, the insurance company will fight you on whether or not your injuries were a result of the accident if you do need medical treatment for those injuries at at later date.
DO keep up with your medical treatment until you are fully healed.
The insurance company will want to close your claim as quickly as possible, and they will try to push you to finish up your medical treatment and settling your case. If you end up settling your case prematurely, you will end up giving up your right to file a claim for injuries ever again. If you quickly sign a release and later find that you’re still hurt, you will have no way of receiving additional compensation. Make sure you are well before signing a release or you will be unable to receive compensation for any ensuing medical bills or for pain and suffering.
