The statistics are mind blowing when it comes to distracted driving. For instance, distracted driving is the number one killer of teens in the US. Even though wrecks involving alcohol and teens have dropped, the number of teen fatalities has not decreased, because distracted driving is becoming more and more common (2007, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and State Farm Insurance Study and NHTSA). Lives are likely being lost at this moment as a result of the dangerous behavior of texing.
In an effort to get the message out to young drivers, together, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Ad Council, and the Office of the State Attorneys General have developed a new anti-texting campaign, entitled, “Stop the Texts. Stop the Wrecks.”
Here is one of the videos in the campaign. Check out www.stoptextsstopwrecks.org for facts, videos, and tips for helping to end the dangerous habit.
