Car Crashes into Savannah Wendy’s
Charles and Essie Whitehead were going to get a burger from the Wendy’s on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Savannah when something went wrong. According to 88-year-old Charles Whitehead, his wife was driving. He said Essie Whitehead’s foot slipped off of the brake and onto the gas pedal while they were in the drive-thru lane.
The next thing they knew, said Mr. Whitehead, they had crashed their car into the Wendy’s. According to Wendy’s district supervisor Shane Kidwell, this is actually the second time in 6 months someone has driven their vehicle into this Wendy’s location.
While no one was seriously hurt, an employee who had been taking orders at the drive-thru window was taken to the hospital. Kidwell said they expect her to be OK. The Whiteheads were not injured.
I am glad to know that no one was seriously injured in the incident, although the drive thru attendant will probably have some bumps and bruises. The elderly couple is lucky they were not hurt. Luckily, the vehicle was moving at a slow speed since it had just been going through the drive-thru.
It is important to remember that as we get older, sometimes our reflexes get slower and our senses duller. It is our responsibility to look out for our older friends and relatives who may not be able to drive as safely as they once did. Of course this incident could have happened to anyone, but unfortunately this type of issue becomes more common as drivers age.
