Chemical Company Cited for Numerous Safety Violations

According to an AP article on cbsatlanta.com, a northwest Georgia chemical company has been cited by the US Department of Labor with 20 safety violations.

MFG Chemical Inc. exposed their workers to fire and explosion hazards according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The company’s facility in Dalton, Georgia was inspected after an explosion in May caused by an overheated reactor that released a water treatment chemical into the air and caused the hospitalization of 40 employees for skin and respiratory problems.

The company has 15 business days to comply with regulations from the Department of Labor or to contest the findings.

The Department of Labor is proposing the company pay a $77,000 fine.
