Driver Loses His Life in Single Car Accident; Passenger with Serious Injuries
The driver of a 2002 Dodge Stratus, identified as Briant Anthony Payne, 36, of Carrollton, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Highway 166, just east of Jones Mill Road where his vehicle left the roadway and overturned multiple times at 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, October 28. Payne had a 33-year-old passenger with him at the time of the accident named Shontez Larone Farmer who suffered a serious head injury and had to be airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center where he remained at the time of the article in the Times-Georgian.
Police, along with public information officer for the Georgia State Patrol, Gordy Wright, reported that alcohol was likely involved and was a contributing factor to the accident. The fatality report shows that Mr. Payne was in fact wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck, but did not say whether or not Mr. Farmer was wearing his.
We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Payne and hope that Mr. Farmer is able to make a full recovery from his injuries.
