Marietta Police Officer in Serious Crash
An officer was injured last week in Marietta after he got out of his police cruiser to assist car accident victims.
James McClure, a 26-year-old officer with the Marietta Police Department, stopped to help the drivers of two vehicles that had collided on Canton Connector near the Church Street Extension. Officer McClure got out of his vehicle and approached the accident. Another car came upon the scene and was able to stop without hitting the officer. But another car came up behind the first car and was unable to stop in time, striking that vehicle and knocking it into Officer McClure.
According to the Marietta police, Office McClure was seriously hurt, but he is expected to recover from his injuries. The driver who caused the accident was ticketed.
I am glad to hear that this police officer will be alright. It is extremely important that all drivers are observant of the traffic conditions around them. If there has been a collision, emergency personnel and possibly accident victims may be in and around the roadway, and it is important to slow down and prepare to stop. Additionally, any cars involved in a collision should immediately move off of the road to a safer place to exchange insurance information, if possible. That way, emergency personnel are not endangered when they come to the scene to assist.
My best wishes are with Officer McClure for a speedy recovery.
