According to an article on ajc.com, police report that a 19-year-old Acworth man and his mother are being charged in circumstances leading up the death of a motorcyclist.
Giovanni Aragon-Mercado was charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane, and violation of license restrictions. A spokesman from the Sheriff’s office reported that the man’s mother, Perla Mercado, from Woodstock, was also charged after letting an unllicensed person drive her car. Aragon-Mercado was driving with a learner’s permit and was not permitted to drive alone under the restrictions of the permit. Mercado allowed her son to drive her car to his job.
The Sheriff’s office suspects that Aragon-Mercado fell asleep while driving the SUV that struck motorcyclist, Derrick Ferree, 24 years old, from Marietta on Wednesday. He was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he later died. Mr. Aragon-Mercado was not hurt in the incident.
We offer our sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Ferree.
