Atlanta MARTA Bus Drags Woman

As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com, a passenger was injured exiting a MARTA bus at Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and Mayson Turner Road in northwest Atlanta as she “turned to retrieve her purse from inside the bus when the front door closed on her arm” and was dragged 63 feet.

Atlanta police were told by witnesses and the victim, Lettie Robinson, that the 52-year-old bus driver, Belinda McMillan, drove away after the incident which happened about 10:30 p.m.

Witnesses, when they saw the woman being dragged, drove their vehicle in front of the MARTA bus to stop it said Atlanta spokeswoman Kim Jones to AJC. The bus driver stopped the bus and opened the door and the victim fell to the ground and rolled in front of the MARTA bus which then “drove around the victim and left the scene.”

Robinson, who uses a walker, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment where she sustained a broken arm and lacerations on her legs and head according to Jones.

With the help of a MARTA supervisor, police located McMillan at the West Lake rail station.

“The bus driver said the victim exited the bus and turned towards the bus and began hanging on the bus door running alongside the bus, tripped and fell in the street.” according to Jones.

Jones said, McMillan was arrested and charged with reckless conduct, and taken to Fulton County Jail and is being held on $1000 bond.

McMillan has been place on administrative leave while the transit authority conducts a full internal investigation according to MARTA spokeswoman Cara Hodgson.

We wish Ms. Robinson a full recovery from this horrible incident.
