According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the crash that occurred on Saturday night involving a tractor trailer on I-75 has claimed the life of an infant. The baby had been transported to Children’s at Scottish Rite in critical condition after the incident and passed away on Monday.
The parents of the child, Donald and Candice Morgan of Douglasville were also injured in the crash and were taken to Atlanta Medical Center. Their condition is unknown at this time.
Cobb police say the wreck took place just before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday on I-75 southbound at the Windy Hill exit. Traffic had come to a standstill due to construction, however, the tractor-trailer did not stop and crashed into the Morgan’s car and two others ahead of it.
It is not clear if there was mechanical error or not which may have contributed to this unfortunate collision. We also do not have information if the driver was distracted not allowing him to properly slow down or stop his vehicle. More information as we find out details.
Ramon Mcelrathbey and Cornelius Mcelrathbey, of Atlanta, both were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital according to police.
Henry Lipps, 59, was the operator of the truck. He was charged with second degree vehicular homicide and following too closely. Police stated they have no reason to believe that Lipps was impaired due to drugs or alcohol, however, mandatory substance tests are being conducted.
We send our deepest sympathies to the Morgan family and to everyone that has been affected by this terrible accident.
