Savannah Workers’ Comp Lawyer Ty Wilson – How Do I File A Workers’ Compensation Claim Without A Lawyer?

912-208-2992, www.TyWilsonLaw.com Savannah work injury lawyer Ty Wilson discusses filing a workers’ compensation claim.  This is for information purposes it is ALWAYS recommended that you speak with a Georgia workers’ compensation attorney for specific answers to your specific claim.

Hello. My name is Ty Wilson. I’m a Georgia workers’ compensation attorney practicing law in the State of Georgia.  And our video topic for today is:

How can I file a claim or a workers’ compensation claim for a work injury I’ve had?

Well, as you know probably from the other videos, as soon as you’re injured the first thing you need to do is report it to your supervisor/boss and ask them for medical care.  If they’re not responding, it’s always a good idea to put it in writing and send it to them and either mail it to them, certify returned receipts so you know they’ve received it or fax it to them with a fax confirmation stating that you have been injured on the job, you’re hurt and you need medical care as it relates to your claim.

Another way to set up the claim is to look for what is called posted panel of physicians.  Some employers have them and some don’t.  If your employer does not have a posted panel of physicians (or also called a list of doctors—with which you could see if you’re injured on the job or if you don’t know where to locate them), it’s probably a good idea to reach out to a Georgia workers’ compensation attorney.  Speak with them about what your rights are and what would be the next step that would be in your best interest to get the medical care you need.

The main thing is you never want a statute of limitations to run in any matter—workers’ comp, personal injury, any type of matter.  And so if you’re anywhere close to the original one year from the date of injury and you have not retained an attorney, you do not know if there is a claim set up with the state board of workers’ comp.  You’re going to want to contact the state board of workers’ comp and find out if there is a claim set up.  They have it based on social security numbers if you don’t know your claim.  You’ll need to give them that information and they’ll look it up.  If they do not have a claim set up, you can speak with them about setting up a claim.  It’s what is called filing a WC14.  It’s probably easier to speak with a Georgia workers’ compensation attorney than it is to try and to go it alone as you want to make sure that you fill out the WC14 properly so that you don’t limit your rights in the future.

We hope that you’ve found this information helpful. And we hope that you’ll come check out our other videos.  And give us a call if you have any questions.  Thank you.
