Apparently, with one such specialist practice, that is not the case, they originally got paid by the health insurance provided by work from my client. Then they decided to bill him the balance or what the health insurance does not pay. They have the right to do that in certain circumstances. But wait there is medical payments coverage, this is the coverage that will provide payment for medical bills up to a contracted amount provided through and automobile insurance carrier, that should take care of this balance right?
Not according to the orthopaedic specialist group, they do not bill auto insurance companies for services even if there is coverage! We are providing them this insurance coverage because they advised my client they are going to put him in collections (knowing because it was their doctors who took him out of work, that he could not work), yet we provide them the source where they will be paid better than with a health insurance company and they are refusing to accept or even attempt to collect. The only way they will accept is through my client.
Does that seem fair? The reality is if you are involved in a car crash with serious injuries you are in a maze and it is never clear who is going to take their shot at you.
Shame on you orthopaedic group. We will get you paid and if you do not accept the money you will be forced to decide how you handle no payment versus the payment we offer. You can not decide who pays you only if you choose to accept payment. You can not have it both ways!
