Food Poisoning Lawyer | Cantaloupe Recalled Due to Listeria Risk

Holly, CO, company, Jensen Farms, has voluntarily recalled Rocky Ford whole cantaloupe due to the possiblity of Listeria contamination.

The cantaloupes involved in the recall were distributed to AZ, CO, IL, KS, MN, MO, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OK, PA, TN, TX, WY, and UT. The cantaloupes have a green and white sticker which reads: "Product of USA-Frontera Produce-Colorado Fresh-Rocky Ford-Cantaloupe" or a gray, yellow and green sticker which reads: "Jensen Farms-Sweet Rocky Fords." Consumers should contact their retailer for sourcing information if they have purchased cantaloupes not containing a label.

The company is requesting consumers that have these cantaloupes in their possession to please destroy them. The FDA recommends discarding the cantaloupe in a sealed container to avoid the risk of children or animals ingesting the discarded product.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can contaminate foods and can lead to listeriosis. The illness is especially dangerous to unborn babies and newborns who have been infected after a mother is exposed during pregnancy, older persons, and those with weakened immune systems, such as people with chronic disease or those undergoing chemotherapy for example.
