The Benefits of Med-Pay Georgia drivers have the option of purchasing Medical Payment insurance coverage. This no-fault claim can be used by the insurance policy holder and any passengers in the car at the time of the accident to help
pay for medical bills.
- Why Do I Need It? Medical Payment, or Med-Pay, coverage is not mandatory, but I strongly suggest that everyone carry it. It will pay for medical bills related to your accident injuries. Med-Pay policies usually come in $1,000 or $5,000 increments. Many doctors will even allow themselves to be paid directly by the insurance company if you have a Med-Pay policy.
- Isn't the At-Fault Party Supposed to Pay? Yes. But the pursuit of an injury claim is a lengthy process that can take months to resolve. And the at-fault party's insurance company will not pay your medical bills directly. It will only make one payment, at the end of the claim, once a settlement amount has been agreed on. This means that you will be responsible for paying for your medical bills in the meantime.
- If I Have Health Insurance Do I Still Need Med-Pay? Even with health insurance, you still have out of pocket costs. Co-pays and deductibles can become expensive if you are seeking a lot of medical treatment. Med-Pay can help take care of these out of pocket expenses. Remember, Med-Pay covers everyone in your vehicle at the time of the accident, not just you. This coverage can be very beneficial to your passengers as well.
