Papaya Recalled Due To Possible Health Risk

As per their recent press release, Agromod Produce, Inc., a company out of McAllen, Texas is recalling papayas, as they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The fresh and whole papayas have been distributed to retail stores and wholesalers across the nation and to Canada. Agromod has recalled all Blondie, Yaya, Mananita, and Tastylicious Brand Papayas that were sold before July 23, 2011.

These papayas were produced in Mexico and may be linked to 97 cases of Salmonella, with 10 hospitalizations, in 23 states in the US.

Consumers are strongly urged to return Blondie, Yaya, Mananita, and Tastylicious Brand Papayas to the store of purchase. Per Agromod, customers may contact the company with questions at 1-800-385-7658.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause sometimes fatal infections in high-risk people, such as young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.
