Savannah Man Indicted in Hit-and-Run Death

According to an article in the Savannah Morning News published on Savannahnow.com, a Savannah man was indicted on Wednesday on vehicular homicide as well as related charges in a hit-and-run wreck that caused the death of Craig Alexander Loxton, 18, on December 13.

Loxton's motor scooter was struck from behind on the Islands Expressway overpass west of President Street and US 80. The driver left the scene in a gold-colored Toyota.

Jonathan Brett McKie, 38, surrendered the day after the accident on the advice of his lawyer.

The Chatham County Grand Jury ruled that McKie, was responsible for the accident. The indictment charged him with leaving the scene and failing to stop and make "every reasonable effort to" ensure that EMS and police were contacted.

In addition, McKie is charged with homicide by vehicle for causing the victim's death while driving under the influence of alcohol and a drug and a third charge of homicide by vehicle by driving while under the influence of alcohol that left him less than safe to drive. The last count charged McKie with failing to immediately report an accident that caused an injury or death.
