Should I report my car accident to my insurance company even if I am not at-fault?

A: Yes, it is recommended that you contact your insurance company and let them know about the automobile accident claim.  The reason for this is you do not know if the other insurance company for the at-fault driver is going to cover them.  Therefore, it is very important that your insurance company is put on notice so they may provide you coverage should the at-fault driver not have adequate insurance coverage or any insurance coverage as it relates to the claim.

You have a contract with your insurance company to provide notice as soon as you can and in some cases the contract might state that if you do not notify the insurance company of a motor vehicle accident or a car wreck within a certain time period, i.e. 30 days for 45 days, they have the right to deny your claim.  It depends on the contract that you have with your insurance company.

Therefore, it’s important that you provide them notice of a car accident as soon as possible.

If you look at your insurance policy it should spell out the details that are applicable for you and your coverage.
