What is defamation?

A: Defamation is regarded as a false statement about another person, uttered or written with the intent to cause injury to that person's reputation, and the communication of the statement to a third-party. In the case of defamation of a private individual, the plaintiff need only demonstrate that the statement was made with negligence.

Should you be named in a defamation case and found responsible, you could be liable to compensate the injured party for harm, mental anguish, court fees, and any medical expenses resulting out of the injurious statement or statements.
