    According to the Savannah Morning News, a forklift accident claimed the life of a Georgia port worker on Wednesday at Georgia Ports' Ocean Terminal.

    The worker has been identified as Dianne Pinckney Cobb, 57. She was a member of the International Longshoremen's Association Local 1475.

    Authorities say that the incident happened around 10:15 a.m. near a bulk carrier ship, the Arietta, which had just come in from Wilmington, NC.

  • Georgia Workers Comp Lawyer | UPDATE: One Worker Injured In Airport Hangar Collapse Has Died
    Feb 29, 2012

    30-year-old, Christopher Mathis, from Valdosta, died on Monday after injuries he sustained last Wednesday when a hangar collapsed at a Paulding County airport according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com.

    Blake Swafford, Airport Director, reported to the AJC that 8-10 workers were on-site when the incident occured. The workers were working on support bracing for a new 30,000 sf corporate hangar.

    Another worker was also hurt in the incident, however, he has since been released from the hospital.

    The incident is under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and it is also trying to be determined if wind had anything to do with the hanger collapsing.

  • Cobb County Workers Comp Lawyer | 2 Workers Hurt In Airport Hangar Collapse

    According to an article on wsbtv.com, two construction workers were hurt at the Paulding County Airport when an aircraft hangar collapsed.

    The incident happened Wednesday afternoon. Both workers were transported to area hospitals. One of the workers was critically injured. Their names have not been released.

    Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are loking into the matter and what may have caused the hangar to collapse including the possibility of the gusty winds that day at the airport playing a part. The hangar was only partially constructed consisting of just a skeleton made of steel and did not have walls or a roof.

  • Cobb Workers' Comp Lawyer | Train and Truck Collide in Marietta
    Feb 07, 2012

    According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution on ajc.com, 3 members of a train crew were injured when their train collided with a truck in Marietta.

    The truck was hauling scrap metal and became stuck on the track located near Loudermilk Drive and Marble Mill Road around 4:00 p.m. on Monday reported police. Witnessness said attempts were made to get the truck off the tracks, however, to no avail. When the train approached from around a bend, it couldn't stop and T-boned the 18-wheeler said a witness.

    The driver of the truck was not injured in the wreck, as he was out of the cab when the crash occured.

    Three of the crew members from the train who complained of injuries were taken to an area hospital.

  • Georgia Corrections Officer Dies During Training

    According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com, a probation officer from the Georgia Department of Corrections died after being accidentally shot during a training exercise at a Jackson, Georgia prison.

    The officer's name has not yet been released and the incident is pending investigation.

  • Atlanta Gas Light Workers Injured in Forsyth

    According to WSBTV.com, two Atlanta Gas Light workers were injured while attempting to repair a gas main on Monday.

    The incident occurred when the workers hit an underground power line while trying to fix the ruptured gas main.

    One worker was transported to Johns Creek hospital in stable condition and one worker was treated for injuries at the scene.

    A maintenance worker suffered injuries after a gas explosion at Laura's Manor in Douglasville. He is currently being treated for his burns at Grady.

    The cause of the explosion is still unknown, however, Atlanta Gas Light is conducting an investigation.

    Four families were displaced after the incident.

  • Georgia Power Worker Electrocuted While Repairing Lines

    As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a Georgia Power Company worker with 20 years experience was electrocuted while working on a line along US Highway 82 east of Brookfield, Georgia.

    The employee, Steven Broadus Sellers, 48, of Moultrie, and other crew members were trying to restore power after a line went down due to a storm. He came in contact with a live line and was electrocuted according to the Tift County Coroner.

  • Worker Dies At Altanta Airport

    A worker died on Tuesday after he was trapped under a hydraulic lift at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.

    According to an Associated Press (AP) article on ABC12.com, a medical examiner identified the man as Eric Lee, 29, of Cartersville, GA.

    Emergency workers tried for hours to free Mr. Lee, who was trapped underneath a loading dock. He was a contractor doing a remodeling job.

    An investigation is underway.

  • Fall Takes Life of Savannah Construction Worker

    As reported by WSAV on WSAV.com and the Island Packet, a 60-year-old Savannah man, Juan Arriaga, has died from injuries he suffered after falling at a worksite on Hilton Head Island, SC.

    Arriaga was working on a heating and air conditioning system at a weight loss clinic when he fell through a hole. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Hilton Head Hospital.
