As reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com, Donald Clyatt Moore, 51, of Newnan died from injuries he sustained after being knocked into the concrete median on I-85 in Coweta County while trying to fix a flat tire with a Georgia State Patrol trooper. The trooper suffered only minor injuries.
According to the AJC, a Nissan Rogue hit Moore's van, pushing him and the officer into the median. Paul Beaube Burgess, 28, of Marion Junction, AL, was driving behind the Nissan Rogue and collided with it, causing the accident.
Burgess has been charged with driving under the influence of prescription drugs, serious injury by vehicle, and following too closely. More charges may be filed due to Moore's death according to a police spokesman.
The attorney for Burgess said that the likely cause of the wreck was fatigue and that he may have nodded off, however, that Mr. Burgess was not under the influence of anything. Lab tests are being conducted. Our prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Moore and all who have been affected by this terrible accident.
