According to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com, College Park will institute a "dangerous dog" registry next month, which means that any residents who own a dog that have bitten a person, without being provoked, since March 31, 1989, will have to register their dog with the city clerk's office. Additionally, all pit bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers and German shepherds will need to be registered.
This new legislation is in the interest of public safety and it isn't unique. Lawrenceville, LaGrange and Floyd County have enacted similar laws, however, College Park will be the first to include breeds outside of pit bulls.
Some dog owners are complaining about the new law, as there is a $25 fee that goes along with the registration. Any person who does not register their dog will be slapped with a fine and pets will be confiscated.
