As reported by Savannah Morning News on savannahnow.com, a two-vehicle accident at Ga 17 and Blue Jay Road caused a passenger riding in the bed of a Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling south on Ga.17 to be ejected and transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries according to David Ehsanipoor, spokesman for Effingham County sheriff's department.
The truck was hit after a Chevrolet Cobalt turned from Blue Jay Road into its path that was also carrying an additional passenger in the bed and two persons in the cab. The driver of the Cobalt and a single passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Cobalt was charged with failure to yield, said Ehsanipoor.
It is not clear if the Cobalt's vision was blocked or they were distracted or not paying attention or if they thought they could make it and thought the other vehicle could slowdown.
