The driver of a box truck that caused a wreck on I-985 killing a Lawrenceville couple has been charged according to police.
Stephen Scott, 38 years old, from Lithonia has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and following too closely. The wreck happened Friday around 3:20 p.m. on I-985 South under the Buford Drive (Georgia 20) overpass, police said. Per authorities, the box truck driven by Scott, ran into the back of a Nissan Altima. The box truck and the Nissan Altima then hit a pickup truck and a minivan that was towing an ATV.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, Donna Kesse, 60, and her husband, John Kesse, 62, were both killed from the impact of the crash. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were transported to an area hospital, treated and then released. The driver of the minivan was not injured. Scott was transported to the hospital as well, however, he was treated and released.
According to police, speed nor alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash.
We offer our condolences to the family and the friends of the Kesses as they mourn their abrupt and tragic loss. We hope that the others involved in the crash are able to make full and quick recoveries.
