WSBTV.com reports that 10 people have been arrested following the wreck that took the life of 16-year-old Cheyenne Sauls in February.
Sauls was one of four passengers in a Chevy Blazer driven by 17-year-old Jason Lark. Sauls was thrown from the vehicle and died after Lark lost control of the vehicle on Pleasant Drive. Two other teens were seriously injured in the crash.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com, Lark is charged with drunken driving, first-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of serious injury by vehicle, under-aged person in possession of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving and no driver's license on his person. Another passenger, 21-year-old Dustin Willis faces charges of furnishing alcohol to the teens and being a party to vehicular homicide.
WSBTV.com reported that the group went to a bonfire before the crash. Douglasville Chief Code Enforcement Officer Richard Todd Mcallister hosted the event and investigators say that Mcallister knew the teens were drinking. Mcallister faces five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Also arrested and accused of providing alcohol illegally to the group are a package store worker and three adults who were at a party that the group in the car also attended prior to the wreck.
Clearly with the additional arrest, there is a greater liklihood of additional liability for contributing to the cause of the most untimely crash. Since Georgia has dram shop laws, it is possible that the provider of the alcohol could be partially responsible.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by this horrible accident.
