According to an article on Savannahnow.com, a 24-year-old Savannah man has been indicted on charges of vehicular homicide for the traffic death of a 58-year-old woman at Lake Mayer last December.
It was determined by the Chatham County grand jury that Philip Morgan McAlpin Jr. was the cause of Sheila McKnight's death while driving under the influence of marijuana and while he was driving recklessly.
Witnesses reported that McAlpin's vehicle ran into Ms. McKnights's car on December 21 in front of Lake Mayer Community Park.
The charges include two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI "while under the influence of any drug, to wit: marijuana AKA THC to the extent that is was less safe for him to drive." The indictment also charges reckless driving.
Our sympathies remain with the family and friends of Ms. McKnight after her tragic loss.
