Teen Killed In Gwinnett Crash Identified

Posted on Apr 15, 2011

As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on ajc.com, the teenage boy killed in a car crash near Buford on Wednesday was identified as Johnathan Campbell, 15, a freshman at Lanier High School.

A northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the passenger side of a Chrysler 300 as it was heading south on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. The Chrysler was hit as it was turning left onto First Avenue. Campbell of Buford was riding in the Chrysler.

Rebecca L. Campbell, 17, was the driver of the Chrysler and sister of the boy that died. Her vehicle then bumped into two cars waiting at a stop sign in the intersection, causing minor damage to both vehicles but no injures according to Channel 2 Action News.

The driver of the Jeep, Jhony C. Velasquez, 34, of Duluth, was charged with driving without a driver's license.

The driver's were both taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said it was raining during the crash but did not say whether the rain contributed to the accident. Neither driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or speeding. The investigation is ongoing.

Clearly not having a proper driver's license implies the driver could not obtain one or does not have the requisite experience to be operating a motor vehicle on the road.  No one complains about unlicensed drivers until something unfortunate occurs like this.

Once again our hearts and prayers are with the family and friends of the lost love one.
